“Indiana’s roots are strong and mighty and that is what makes me proud to live here.”
What’s the best part of being the 2023 Indiana State Fair Queen?
Though I’m still early in my summer travels, my favorite part about being the Indiana State Fair Queen, so far, has been traveling to parts of Indiana I’ve never seen before, spending time with my escorts (parents!), meeting and inspiring many young women across the state, and sharing my love for 4-H and Indiana agriculture statewide!
What do your fair queen duties include?
During June and July, my duties include traveling Indiana and representing the State Fair at events such as pageant workshops, mock interview sessions, pageant competitions, county fairs, and much more. Between now and the end of July, I will travel approximately 6,500 miles to 45 counties in preparation for the 2023 Indiana State Fair. At these events, I generally have the privilege of speaking about the Indiana State Fair and personally inviting people to come. I, also, depending on the event, get to speak to pageant contestants about my experiences and my tips and tricks on how to succeed! I always love the mock interview workshops where I can give my advice on how to rock an interview. During the state fair, my job will be to greet fair-comers, visit all the fun events and competitions, welcome people to the free stage events, and much more! I’m very excited for the state fair, and invite you to come check it out for yourself!
What do you love about Indiana? / What makes you proud to be a Hoosier?
I’m proud to be a Hoosier (Boilermaker!) because, even though we’re small, we are strong! We host the largest one day robotics competition in the world, rank 5th in corn production in the country, are home to the #4 STEM university in the nation (Purdue), and are considered the racing capital of the world! Indiana’s roots are strong and mighty and that is what makes me proud to live here.
If you could do anything to help your community, what would it be?
If I could do anything to help my community, it would be to offer more student-led programs for youth whether it’s a STEM workshop, choir camp, school tutoring, or even 4-H mentorship. As a child, I looked up to middle and high schoolers who took time to love and invest in me. I would listen and learn from them better than an adult because they were more relatable. I know the impact that my generation can have on curious and determined students in our communities, and I want to refine the way we mentor, teach, and encourage the world changers of tomorrow!
